Five stages of the writing process include:
1. Pre-writing
        This includes brainstorming, making lists, making outlines, gathering information.
2. Drafting
        This is the first draft of the paper.  Should be written to its entirety and then revised/edited.
3. Revising
        This includes changing ideas, elaborating on topics, and physically writing on the first draft to make sure you are portraying the proper message.
4. Editing
        This is where the mechanics will be corrected, i.e. spelling, grammar, etc.
5. Publishing
        This is important for a student to feel the accomplishment.  Either put it up on a wall or show it to a principal/department-head, or really get it published in a school paper possibly.
